Water Service Cut Off?

Water Service Cut Off?

Utilities director in Atmore says hundreds of North Baldwin County people could lose water service by the end of the week...because he says local water provider hasn't paid water bill in nearly fourth months

The Perdido Water Authority buys its water from the city of Atmore. But city utilities director Tom Wolfe says P-W-A hasn't paid their water bill in nearly four months. Wolfe says P-W-A owes Atmore 15-thousand dollars in unpaid bills and says he could be forced to shut off water in Perdido by the end of the week.

"We don't enjoy cutting people's water off," says Wolfe. "But sometimes in this business, you have to, we're just like any other business when you can't get paid, you have to take action and stop the credit."

Wolfe says the last bill he received was in late June. 400 customers in Perdido could see their faucets run dry by Thursday, if the bill isn't paid.

"I think that could be devastating," says Shirley Ammons, who has lived in Perdido for years. "If I pay my bill, why don't they pay their bill? If I don't pay it, they'll cut my water off."

We tried to talk to officials at Perdido Water Authority about the issue but nobody would comment about the problem on-camera. We were referred to P-W-A attorney Bob Wills. Wills did not return our phone calls.
