Police Chief Has Serious Injuries From Crash

Thomasville Police Chief Billy Hicks crashed Saturday night. The mayor says the chief has a spinal cord injury.

The City of Thomasville is keeping its police chief in the their thoughts and prayers.
Mayor Sheldon Day tells News 5 that Police Chief Billy Hicks was injured in a car crash on Saturday.
Hicks was driving on Highway 5 just north of Thomasville when it happened. He was helping other city employees track down a water emergency. The mayor says rescue crews had to pull Chief Hicks and his passenger Ronald Jowers from the wreckage. According to the mayor, Hicks told his mother that a tire blew and caused the accident. No other cars were involved.

Thomasville Mayor Sheldon Day says that Chief Hicks underwent surgery on Sunday to repair damage to vertebra in his spine.

The mayor says, "The entire City of Thomasville is praying for Chief Hicks and Mr. Jowers along with their families as they begin recovery from their injuries."
