Carol Lovell-Saas is an unabashed lover of nature. She loves the sights, sounds and taste
of everything you can find outdoors. She's the director of Biophilia, a nature center in Elberta. Carol says she wants to show people how to recognize the bio diversity in their own back yards.
“I have all the people call me and they say 'oh you wouldn't believe what we've got back there now I know how to look for it,'" says Lovell-Saas. Biophilia sits on 20 acres. Half are wetland swamps and the other half is teeming with butterflies and caterpillars. Her biggest passion is working on butterfly gardens. To keep the pretty fluttering insects in your yard, she says native plants like milk weed work well to not only attract butterflies, but to get them staying.
“The butterfly females will smell that they'll lay your eggs on plants and you won't just get them coming into your yard, they'll multiplying in your yard,” says Carol. She says she's identified dozens of plants on her property and started to grow concerned when she saw some flower species dying out; she wants Biophilia to inspire a love of nature in others.
