Four dogs have landed three brothers in the Baldwin County jail. Justin, Cheston and Marcus Foster are charged with animal cruelty after four pit bulls were left chained and without food or water.
Their rescue from starvation has come too late according to Charlotte Plumb with the Baldwin County Animal Shelter. "We had a veterinarian looked at them because they were very emaciated, scarred and wounded and she recommended that we euthanize them."
Three brothers, Justin, Cheston and Marcus Foster are charged with animal cruelty after a deputy was called to a property in Summerdale. "He found four dogs in horrible shape. Emaciated, some of them were having a hard time even getting off the ground," says Major Anthony Lowery with the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office.
The four pit bulls were found with out food, water, very little shelter but they did have something, a chain that weighs about 15 pounds, around their neck.
A sign on the front gate where the dogs were found advertises horses, pit bulls and show dogs but the only thing deputies found was cruelty and neglect.
"One of the brothers owned some horses," says Lowery. "The department of agriculture is looking into those and they may additionally be seized."
Hay for the horses is out of reach. They do have water and grass so a state cruelty investigator has given the brothers thirty days to get the horses healthy.
Meanwhile, the dogs that were forgotten and left to die now only have hours to live.
If convicted of animal cruelty the brothers face a year in jail and a two thousand dollar fine for each dog.
