Thrifty Thanksgiving

You may have to dig a little deeper in your pocket to put on your Thanksgiving feast this year.
According to a survey by the United States Farm Bureau Federation, Americans will pay 6 percent more this year for a Thanksgiving meal that includes turkey, stuffing and pumpkin pie.

Supermarkets are also seeing the effects of the sluggish economy. Greer's Grocery Store on Florida Street says while the check out lines are not as long as they were this time last year, people are still pouring in for the essentials. "They're getting their turkey their stuffing, they're picking up their yams, so they're still getting everything they need,"Said George Fowler, a manager at Greer's. But it depends who you ask. Delisa Brown says she's having to scrounge this year. "I'm trying to see if I could get up enough money to get some cakes and some goodies,"Said the shopper.

While Greer's boasts that their turkey at 78 cents a pound, is the cheapest in town, for Brown every little discount helps. "I'm recently separated you know so it's been hard, one income in the family, everything is extremely high so it's been rough,"Said Brown.
The U.S.D.A says food prices are expected to rise 5.5 percent this year, marking the largest increase in two decades.
