Green Christmas Gift Ideas

Buying green gifts for Christmas may seem tough, but local organizations say it's easy!

Bethany Kraft with the Alabama Coastal Foundation suggests buying a tree.
"This holiday season, a lot of people are re-evaluating their holiday shopping lists. We wanted to provide folks the opportunity to give a meaningful gift that would contribute to the overall quality of life in South Alabama. And a tree is a gift that will keep giving for years to come."
For just twenty five dollars, a tree is planted in the name of the gift recipient. These trees are marked so you can check up on the tree while visiting the Village Point Park Preserve in Daphne.
"You're helping have a positive impact on the environment and it's something that everyone will be able to enjoy."
This particular gift also helps spruce up the city of Daphne says Ashley Campbell. "We're actually coming in and removing exotic species like popcorn trees and privot and we're removing them and leaving void open areas. The Coastal Foundation is coming in and replant these areas to prevent the invasives from coming back."

You don't have to wait until Christmas to give a green gift. Next Wednesday at Five Rivers Resource Center, you can go to your first holiday party of the season benefiting Mobile Baykeeper. The party is from 6-8pm. Dinner and drinks are included in the ticket. You will be able to check out the Wyland Exhibit for clean waters, and catch Delta Reign perform.
