Thanksgiving Dinner In Space

Read how the astronauts describe their thanksgiving feast. Let's just say it's less than gourmet.

HOUSTON (AP) - The smoked turkey aboard the space shuttle
Endeavour resembles sliced deli meat, only stiffer.
The candied yams are bland inside, the green beans taste like
they've been microwaved to death, and the cornbread stuffing has a
broth-heavy, institutional flavor.
Thanksgiving dinner for the astronauts involves items being
irradiated, freeze-dried, vacuum-packed into plastic pouches and
then launched into space to be served 220 miles above Earth.
The seven astronauts and the three crew members aboard the
international space station will take a break from their chores and
gather a special Thanksgiving Day meal on Thursday.
Endeavour commander Christopher Ferguson says it will give them
a moment to pause and reflect just how fortunate we are as a
country and as global community.
The astronauts will float around as they eat.
