A grand jury will hear the case of a woman accused of planning to kill her husband by injecting a horse painkiller into his IV.

Marti Beech waived her preliminary hearing Tuesday, automatically sending the case to the grand jury.

Prosecutors say the Chatom woman planned to carry out the plot while her husband, Bo Beech, was hospitalized at Mobile Infirmary last September. A teenager, who prosecutors say Marti enlisted to get a drug called bute, alerted police.

Marti and her family refused to talk to News Five after Tuesday's hearing, saying they were instructed by her attorney to not talk to "news people."

During an interview last month, Marti acknowledged she at times wished her husband was dead. "How many people has ever stood there and said they wish somebody was dead because of the mental cruelty and everything else you've been through," she said.

Bo Beech's family denied claims that Marti was abused by her husband.

"He didn't deserve what she's doing," said Judy Beech, Bo's mother, outside the courtroom. "He was not abusive to her or the children," she said.

A grand jury will hear the case next year. Meanwhile, Marti remains free on bond.
