Chinese Media Blasts New Guns N' Roses Album

BEIJING (AP) - A state-run newspaper in China is blasting the
latest Guns N' Roses album as an attack on the country.
Even though recording began in 1994, "Chinese Democracy"
finally hit stores in the U.S. just yesterday. It isn't for sale in
China, where censors maintain tight control over music.
Today's article is headlined "American band releases album
venomously attacking China."
It then quotes unidentified Chinese Internet users describing
the album as part of a western plot to "grasp and control the
world using democracy as a pawn."
Only the album's title was mentioned. The title track has a
reference to the banned Falun Gong spiritual movement, which the
Chinese government has labeled an "evil cult."
Despite restrictions, computer file sharing and pirating of
DVDs, computer games and music CDs is rampant in China, meaning
that any banned material is available through alternative channels.
