MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - Mobile is considering joining the ranks of
cities offering free, wireless Internet services to the public in
certain areas.
Mobile Mayor Sam Jones says he has directed the city's
telecommunications and technology departments to explore the
proposal for the downtown district.
Jones calls it a priority that would be a selling point for
Mobile.
Jones says officials have not decided whether the city would do
it on its own or work with a private company. He says the city's
network doesn't currently have the capacity to simply offer access
through it.
Cost for the proposal was not immediately known.
