Alabama has received a failing grade when it comes to premature births. The state is ranked 50th in the nation for the number of babies that are born early.
That's according to a new report released Wednesday by the March of Dimes.
Some of the contributing factors to premature births in Alabama include women with no insurance and women who smoke.
WKRG News 5 This Morning's Devon Walsh spoke with a representative with the March of Dimes at USA Children and Women's NICU about some of the efforts underway to reduce the number of premature births.
In part two of our report, Devon talks to the parents of a premature infant about how they are coping witht he stress of having a baby much earlier than expected.
