Record Numbers in Voter Turnout

Voter turnout best in generations, maybe a century.

WASHINGTON (AP) - The election may have generated a record
turnout.
Millions voted early and millions more stood in lines that
snaked around blocks, some of them in the pouring rain, in what one
expert says is the highest turnout in 100 years.
George Mason University's Michael McDonald estimates 136.6
million Americans voted in this election. That comes out to a 64.1
percent turnout.
In 1908, 65.7 percent of America voted, and the biggest turnout
since then was 1960, when 63.8 percent of the country voted.
American University's Curtis Gans, the dean of turnout experts,
thinks this year's tallies will be closer to 134 or 135 million.
