Alabama Sets Turnout Record

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Secretary of State Beth Chapman says
Alabamians cast a record number of ballots in this week's general
election.
About 2.1 million votes were cast in Tuesday's historic
presidential election. Chapman said that surpasses the state's
previous record, set in 1992, by about 200,000.
The state also had record voter registration before the
election, with the number of registered voters climbing past 3
million for the first time.
Chapman said another thing that added to the historic day was
the minimal number of problems that were reported. She called the
election "nearly flawless."
Voters did experience long lines at the beginning and end of
polling hours, with some waiting about two hours to vote. Chapman
said those delays were still relatively short compared to other
states.
