Safer Beaches?

Orange Beach Police Department buys new Jeep to patrol beaches

»  Comments | Post a Comment

The Orange Beach Police Department is doing all it can to make the beach safer this summer. The department has purchased a new Jeep Wrangler to patrol the beach seven days a week.

"We'll be able to respond to emergencies faster," says Lt. Rob Howard with the Orange Beach Police Department. "It's a good public relations tool as well as another tool in our arsenal to provide safety and protection to the public."

Officers manning the Jeep will be certified in basic first aid.

"Officers using the Jeep will also be surf rescue certified so they'll be experienced in going out in rip currents and performing water rescues," says Howard. "We don't have lifeguards on our beaches so this new tool will certainly help."
