BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Gov. Bob Riley's office says plans for
an upcoming South American trade mission are still on - if a
special session doesn't interfere.
Governor spokesman Jeff Emerson said Monday that the governor is
still planning to lead a 45-member group of educators and business
representatives on the trip Friday.
But Emerson said it all depends on how long the Legislature's
special session lasts.
Riley called the special session last week after legislators
failed to pass an education budget. It starts Tuesday afternoon and
must last five days, which is the minimum time to pass a bill.
The trip would be Riley's first trade mission to Argentina and
Chile, which are both growing markets for Alabama goods.
