Pensacola Beach Trashed!

Pensacola Beach Trashed!

Ft. Pickens Beach picnic area trashed by party-goers last weekend, locals, sheriff's deputies hoping to keep beach clean Memorial Day weekend

The pavillions at Ft. Pickens Beach have been cleaned up, but the smelly, unsightly and unhealthy mess that was left behind by a group of party-goers last weekend is still on the minds of people that live here.

"If you come out and use our beaches, please be nice and take care of them, because it's a gift from God," says Pat Mitchell, who lives on Pensacola Beach.

A News 5 viewer emailed us pictures of the filth. Half-cooked and half-eaten chicken, a pan full of hot dogs, cans, coolers and plates all littered the park lot and beach area. Some locals say the litterbugs were recent high-school graduates from Mobile.

"There are penalites for littering," says Lt. Gary Montee with the Escambia County Sheriff's Office. "We do ask people to clean up after themselves, there are plenty of trash cans out there."

"Please come back and visit," says Mitchell. "We welcome everyone, just please only leave your footprints!"
