Christy Byrd Philips, a former Loxley Elementary school teacher, broke down in court when she was sentenced to ten years on drug charges.
In December 2006, Baldwin county sheriff's deputies raided her Robertsdale home, finding methamphetamine and marijuana.
She wept and pleaded for the judge not to send her to jail, and the judge did grant some leniency. 9 of then 10 years of Philips' sentence were suspended. That means she'll only serve a one-year sentence. As part of the ruling, Philips will divide her sentence between the Baldwin County jail and a drug treatment facility.
she'll also be required to pay over $3,000 in court costs and fines. After being convicted, Philips was terminated from her position teaching 6th grade math at Loxley Elementary
