MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - State troopers in Alabama and highway
workers are taking part in a two-day exercise on how to reverse the
direction of traffic on Alabama interstates during a hurricane
evacuation.
Governor Bob Riley is scheduled to speak to the troopers and
transportation agency workers this afternoon (Tuesday).
By reversing traffic, state workers can make all four lanes of
Interstate 65 one-way going north to make it easier for coastal
residents to flee from an approaching storm.
Hurricane season begins June 1st.
