Saraland Teacher Gets A Top State Honor

A fourth grade teacher is getting a big award for her work in the classroom.

Regina Everett, a fourth grade teacher at Saraland Elementary School has been named Alabama's Elementary School Teacher of the Year. She was given the award at RSA Plaza Terrace in Montgomery. Everett has been teaching in the classroom for over 18 years. She earned her undergraduate and Master's degrees from the University of South Alabama. will spend the next year as an ambassador for the public school system statewide. Her experience and talent will be put to good use as she takes part in training workshops across the state.
State Superintendent of Education Joseph B. Morton describes Everett embodying the essence of an educators who is both engaging and inspiring to her students. Everett was the runner up to Roy Hudson, director of theatre at Shades Valley High School in the Jefferson County School System. Hudson was named the 2008-2009 Alabama Teacher of the Year. Hudson automatically qualifies for national teacher of the year.
