Facebook has agreed to add more safeguards to protect users from sexual predators and cyberbullies.

The new safeguards include banning convicted sex offenders from the site, limiting older users' ability to search online for subscribers under 18 and joining an existing task force seeking ways to better verify users' ages and identities.

Facebook is the world's second-largest social networking Web site.

Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum says children are often careless about what they share with strangers
online, and the state has a duty in protecting the children from predators.

Alabama Attorney General Troy King said "the agreement with Facebook and an agreement in January with MySpace are important steps to
provide meaningful reform that will help keep children safe."

Facebook has more than 70 million active users worldwide.
