An early morning explosion at a Thomasville plant injured six people and shut down the facility Tuesday. The explosion happened around 2am at the Louisiana Pacific facility on Highway 43. Four of the six injured received severe burns and were airlifted to U-S-A Medical Center in Mobile.
"The original call went out as a brush fire," says Clarke County E.M.A. Director Roy Waite. "So we were a little unprepared when we found out it was an actual explosion. Part of the facility did receive heavy damage."
Officials with L-P would not comment about the explosion and would not release the names of the workers hurt in the explosion.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with them," says Waite. "The injuries are pretty serious, but it could've been worse."
Louisiana Pacific opened last month and employs about 120 people. The plant makes particle wood products and composition board pieces.
