The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, or NOAA, has awarded the University of South Alabama half a million dollar grant to study hurricanes.

USA will use the $505,136 to fund it's Coastal and Inland Hurricane Monitoring and Prediction Program and the Coastal Weather Monitoring for Catastrophic Events Program.

“The upcoming hurricane season reminds us all of how vulnerable Alabama’s coastal communities are to hurricanes and tropical storms,” said U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-AL). “We must ensure that our Gulf Coast residents have access to information that will help them adequately prepare for tropical events."
