Threatening skies didn't stop dozens of people from turning out Friday night for Prichard's Relay For Life.
The event was held to raise money for the fight against cancer.
It was sponsored by by the city of Prichard and the American Cancer Society.
Organizers say about 300 people walked in the relay at Prichard Stadium.
Among them was a Mobile teacher who has quite a story to tell.
Bernice Mallory is a math teacher at Vigor High School.
Her story begins when she had a mammogram at the beginning of this school year.
Mallory said, "I went in and they found a lump. It was diagnosed that I had breast cancer but very early stage. With the Lord's help and finding it early, I worked through chemo (chemotherapy). I would stay home one week after chemo and, the next week, I was at Vigor High School."
Mallory had five months of chemotherapy and is now receiving radiation.
All this, she says, after doctors told her not to even go back to school until June of this year.
Mallory said, "I think it's the Lord's will and its with His help you can do anything. And I decided that I was not going to stay home and whine. You can beat anything with the Lord's help if you're determined to do something about it."
