The man who was shot by Mobile police after speeding away from a checkpoint is out of the hospital and out of jail.
William Murphy III was transferred from USA Medical Center to Mobile Metro Jail shortly after midnight Thursday. But he didn't stay long. Murphy was released after posting a $25,000 bond.
District Attorney John Tyson, Jr. says Murphy had a trunk full of marijuana when he ran into a checkpoint Saturday night on Michigan Avenue. Instead of stopping, Murphy hit the gas and tried to out run police.
After crashing his car, police say Murphy pulled a gun on officers and was shot.
Right now, Murphy is only charged with trafficking marijuana. But police are pursuing federal charges because Murphy is an ex-con, so by law he is not supposed to carry a gun.
