Mobile Man Faces Federal Bank Robbery Charges

Police say he got away with less than $1,000, but it could be enough to buy him 20 years in a federal prison. Today, a federal grand jury indicted Anthony Smith on bank robbery charges.

Police say he got away with less than $1,000, but it could be enough to buy him 20 years in a federal prison. Today, a federal grand jury indicted Anthony Smith on bank robbery charges.
Smith is accused of robbing the Regions Bank at 2000 Dauphin Island Parkway in Mobile on March 4th. Police say Smith jumped over the counter and started helping himself to cash.
Smith took off in a white pick-up truck, but a police officer spotted him getting onto the interstate and pulled him over.
Police say Smith took $976.45 during the heist. If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in federal prison, the maximum penalty for a first time bank robber.
