Mobile and Baldwin Commuters Save Gas Money

Mobile and Baldwin Commuters Save Gas Money

A transit service has started operating between Mobile and Baldwin Counties

Rising gas prices are prompting people in both Mobile and Baldwin Counties to find a new way of getting back and forth from county to county.
It's a service you may not realize existed.
Baylinc is a transit service started by the Baldwin County Commission in November of last year.
Taylor Rider, the transportation director for the commission, says, "Baylinc is a general public route that goes from the eastern shore of Baldwin County into downtown Mobile twice daily, twice in the morning, and then two return trips in the afternoon."
Baylinc officials say more and more people are using the buses, and Rider cites downtown parking headaches, "gas prices, the economy, congestion on the Bayway" as reasons.
Baylinc buses stop in Fairhope, Daphne and Spanish Fort and bring riders to Bienville Square.
Round trip fares range from $3.00 to $6.00.
John Hunter rides the bus.
He lives in Fairhope and works in downtown Mobile.
Hunter says, "With the prices in gas going up like they are, I don't have any excuse not to ride the bus."
Susan Morgan of Fairhope also works in downtown Mobile.
She says, "Its very convenient for me. I can get it just a few blocks from my home in Fairhope."
Baylinc connects with the WAVE transit service in Mobile County, and the BRATS transit service in Baldwin County.
