Mobile County sheriff's deputies
apprehended a state prisoner who led two local law enforcement
agencies on car chases throughout the county before running over a
tire deflating device and trying to flee on foot.
Sheriff's spokesman Kate Johnson said 22-year-old Daniel Keith
Ray II was caught after he fled into nearby woods at the
intersection of Ramsey Road and U.S. 90 in Grand Bay.
Ray was serving time for robbery. Prison system spokesman Brian
Corbett said today that Ray was assigned as a van driver and was
transporting inmates to and from work assignments. DOC officials
reported him missing after they lost radio contact.
Johnson said Ray was alone as he drove the DOC's 2006 Ford E50
van and deputies were called to assist police shortly after 3 p.m.
yesterday.
Johnson said Ray was booked in to the Mobile County Metro Jail
last night.
