Dispute Over Mobile Ambulance Service

Hospital taking Stone County to court because it wanted to use Mobile, Ala ambulance service.

WIGGINS, Miss. (AP) - A dispute between Stone County Hospital
which operates an ambulance service and county supervisors is
headed to court.
The county had initially agreed to sign a contract with the
hospital but has now signed a deal with Triple A ambulance company.
The hospital contends the decision was unfair.
The hospital says it had a verbal agreement that was supposed to
turn into a signed contract in February.
Hospital officials say before that could happen, supervisors
told them they could only use Rescue 7 Air Service out of
Hattiesburg and Forrest General Hospital.
The hospital wanted to use a service out of Mobile.
The hospital has asked a a judge to enforce the original verbal
agreement.
County supervisor Daniel Harris says the county already has a
contract with Rescue 7 for emergency air transport. He says Medivac
-- out of Mobile -- is hundreds of dollars more expensive.
