DOTHAN, Ala. (AP) - Southern Company officials are trying to
determine why a fire detection alarm was set off inside the diesel
generator building at the Farley Nuclear Plant. Utility officials
said in a statement, there was NO fire.
The Alert was issued Thursday at 4:44 p.m., but was downgraded
at 6:36 p.m.
A preliminary investigation determined that exhaust fumes in the
building triggered the alarm. There were no injuries.
The company said both nuclear power units are operating at 100
percent.
The Farley plant, on the Chattahoochee River near Dothan, is
owned by Alabama Power and operated by Southern Nuclear Operating
Company.
