Davidson Student Kills Self In Front Of Classmates

Mobile Police say a Davidson High School student fired a shot, then shot and killed himself in front of 150 classmates inside the school gym.Update 6:40 a.m.

-Davidson students will return to classes today.
-Grief Counselors will be on staff.

9:50 p.m.
-Mobile Police say Jajuan Holmes threatened to kill himself last night. Police say someone called police from Gaylark Road and told them Holmes had a gun. Police say the threat happened around 9:00 p.m. at a friend's place.

3:32 p.m.
- News 5 has learned that Jajuan Holmes was suspended yesterday for what District Attorney John Tyson calls "an infraction."
- School Officials have not commented on why Holmes was suspended.

3:22 p.m.
- Mobile County Schools Spokesperson Nancy Pierce says that the shooting today was an isolated incident, and a weapon was found.
- Pierce spoke with Davidson Principal Lewis Copeland and school, as of now, will go on as planned.
- Several grief couneslors will be on hand for students and staff tomorrow.
- Pierce says getting back to normal quickly will help everyone
- She also recommends parents and guardians take some extra time to show some love to their children tonight.

3:15 p.m.
- Mobile School Superintendent says he and staff are saddened by today's events. His prayers go out to Jajuan Holmes' family and friends.
Superintendent Dr. Roy Nichols says there are no metal detectos in schools, but resource officers do have security wands.
Student security checks are done at random.

1:58 pm
- Police are investigating where Jajuan Holmes got the gun he used to kill himself and how he got it on campus.
- There are no metal detectors at Davidson High School

11:35 am.
Mobile Police say a Davidson High School student shot and killed himself in front of 150 classmates.
Just before 10 a.m., police say 18-year-old Jajuan Holmes walked into the gym, pulled out a revolver and fired one shot into the ceiling before shooting himself. The school is no longer under lockdown. School is not being let out, but students can go home if their parents come to the school to sign them out. Police are still on campus at this hour.

11:22 a.m
Davidson High School is in lockdown. Mobile Police are on the scene. Mobile County School officials tell News Five a student injured himself on campus. Police say the student shot himself and has died from his injuries. There were about 150 students in the gym at the time of the shooting. The student's name has not been released. Nancy Pierce, a spokesperson for the school system says 12 counselors are en route to the school. Students are being allowed to go home, but their parents have to come and check them out. No other details have been released. We have a crew on the scene and will bring you the latest developments as they become available. School officials say classes will go on as planned tomorrow
