One Baldwin County family says they are thankful to be alive after the group went missing during a canoeing trip on Styx River.
Pamela Gordon says she and her three grandchildren are still catching their breath after Tuesday night's adventure.
Gordon says the group was supposed to exit Near Waterworld Road during their trip, but missed their stop.
Gordon says the family then spent 8 hours traveling down stream when Baldwin County search and rescue crews found them.
The grandmother says while the trip was not their first, they did not recognize the route so they got lost.
"We were just running into a lot of debris in the water, a lot of trees were down I guess you know from the previous hurricanes..and it was real hard to get around those and we started getting kind of banged up,"Said Pamela Gordon.
The family says minus a few small scratches they are all doing fine, while twelve year old Baylee says it is a summer vacation she will never forget."It's like the best summer story to tell because it was like really fun,"Said Gordon's granddaughter. The family hopes to return to Styx River later this summer.
