HATTIESBURG, MISS. (AP) - Personnel with the state Department of
Transportation personnel will be conducting a hurricane evacuation
drill on Interstate 59 in south Mississippi next Tuesday.
The so-called contraflow, or lane reversal, drill is part of
MDOT's hurricane preparedness efforts. It will not involve actual
lane closures or reversals. Instead, workers will be given
assignments and instructed on where to take equipment that will be
used in the exercise.
In an effort to assist Louisiana in hurricane evacuation
efforts, MDOT will implement contraflow for Interstate 59 and
Interstate 55 when requested by the neighboring state and approved
by Mississippi's governor.
