PRATTVILLE, Ala. (AP) - Prattville will switch to a four-day
work week until Aug. 4 for some of its employees to help them
conserve $4-a-gallon gasoline.
Starting June 23, they will work Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m.
until 6 p.m. The new schedule continues through Aug. 4.
One hundred of the city's 400 employees will make the switch. It
won't affect police, fire, sanitation, wastewater, leisure services
or the mayor's office.
One employee, Ryan Pacharka, drives from Birmingham to
Prattville and back every day. One less trip will add up for him.
He says, "It will definitely help with the pocketbook."
Mayor Jim Byard says it also will save the city on energy costs
because, he says, "The air conditioner won't run as much and
lights will be off."
