GERMANTOWN, Md. (AP) - This is Father's Day.
And the federal government is using the occasion to promote the
importance of fathers. A new public service campaign has been
suggesting that dads use the day to focus on their children.
Ads on radio and television and in newspapers and on the
Internet are part of a 50-million-dollar effort to encourage
fathers to be better role models for their kids.
The National Responsible Fatherhood Clearinghouse says 24
million American children grow up in homes without fathers. A
spokesman says problems associated with absent fathers cost the
federal government 100 billion dollars a year.
