LAKELAND, Fla. (AP) - Publix Super Markets is buying 49 Florida
stores from Albertsons.
The deal announced Monday is expected to close in September. It
includes 15 locations in north Florida, 30 in central Florida and
four in South Florida. The sale allows Publix to operate four
stores in an new market area for the company: Escambia County.
Publix CEO Ed Crenshaw says in a statement that the
Lakeland-based company is focusing on being the premier food
retailer in the areas where they operate.
Publix is encouraging employees of the Albertsons stores being
affected to apply for a job with them. Publix also plans to hold
job fairs for them in the upcoming weeks.
Grand opening dates for all locations will depend on the scope
of the remodels.
