A Miami lawyer is suing OPEC over the skyrocketing
price of oil.
Attorney Larry Klayman claims in the lawsuit filed Monday that
the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries is violating U.S.
antitrust laws by fixing oil prices. Klayman wants a Miami federal
judge to stop that from happening.
Klayman says oil prices are artificially high because of OPEC, a
13-member organization based in Austria. The lawsuit claims OPEC is
operating a conspiracy aimed at causing economic harm in the U.S.
and other western nations.
An OPEC spokesman did not immediately respond to an e-mail
Monday seeking comment.
Gas is now averaging more than $4 a gallon in the U.S.
