MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - About 250 people are scheduled to gather
in Bay Minette on Wednesday to discuss ways to help former
prisoners adjust to their new lives and avoid a return to crime.
The meeting is the second in the governor's effort to get
faith-based and community-based groups involved in helping former
prisoners return to Alabama communities. The first was held
recently in Montgomery.
Gov. Bob Riley says more meetings are planned around the state
for the Community Partnership for Recovery and Re-entry Network.
The program is based on research that shows inmates are less
likely to return to crime if they have a support network when they
are released.
