MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - A Washington County teacher who was
convicted of enticing a former student for sex is waiting to learn
what her sentence will be for the crime.
Attorneys for the 55-year-old Charlene Schmitz vowed to fight
prosecutors' requests for a harsher sentence at Monday's scheduled
hearing.
Schmitz faces a prison term of more than 15 years for using a
computer and a cell phone to entice the then-14-year-old boy for
sex. A jury convicted her in February.
Prosecutors said the former Leroy High School teacher obstructed
justice and committed perjury during the trial.
They say Schmitz allowed and possibly encouraged her 13-year-old
daughter to lie that she had impersonated her mother during instant
messaging conversations with the boy.
