WASHINGTON (AP) - Senator Ted Kennedy's brain surgery today is
expected to last about six hours.
One of the nation's top neurosurgeons, Doctor Allan Friedman,
will lead the medical team operating on Kennedy at Duke University
Medical Center. The 76-year-old senator was diagnosed with an
especially lethal type of brain tumor last month.
Kennedy says in a statement that he will recuperate in North
Carolina for a week, and then begin chemotherapy and radiation
treatment. After his treatment, Kennedy says he looks forward to
returning to the Senate and working hard to help elect Barack Obama
president. Kennedy has endorsed the Democratic front-runner.
Kennedy also says he's "humbled" and "strengthened" by all
the prayers and the outpouring of support he's received since the
diagnosis.
