A bank robber on the run is now in jail.
Mobile Police say Bobby Lee Malone robbed the Compass Bank on Overlook Road near Moffett Road.
Around 10:00 a.m. Thursday, after attempting to to cash a stolen check, Malone gave a teller at the bank a note demanding money, according to police.
He then fled in a truck he stole earlier in the day.
Officers found him walking on Shelton Beach Road Thursday around 7:00 p.m.
In front of news cameras Malone apologised to his mother and the people of Mobile, going on to say "I tried to beat this stuff, I checked myself into the hospital," presumably referring to a drug addiction.
Malone is now at Mobile Metro Jail awaiting a Friday morning bond hearing on Robbery, Theft of Property and Contempt of Court charges.

This was the 19th bank robbery in Mobile County this year. There have been six in Baldwin County. This same time last year, there had only been 20 bank robberies in Mobile and Baldwin Counties.
