Electrician working at school construction site in Robertsdale killed in freak accident

When the new Robertsdale Elementary School opens next month, the campus will be filled with laughter and smiling faces. But on Wednesday, the situation was much different. The 25 million dollar campus is now the scene of a death investigation. Joshua Adams, a father and little league baseball umpire, died this morning while working inside a classroom. Investigators say Adams fell off a ladder and was possibly electrocuted.

"We've never had this happen before," says Terry Wilhite, director of communications for the Baldwin County Board of Education. "A worksite fatality is a horrible thing and the entire school system is grieving."

Adams' death has even rattled veteran detectives investigating the case.

"We're a close-knit community," says Sgt. Rex Bishop with the Robertsdale Police Department. "The family actually arrived on the scene and we had to tell them what happened out at the school. It's the hardest part of the job."

The school construction site has been shut-down until OSHA can investigate. The Baldwin County Coroner's Office is investigating the exact cause of death.
