City officials went through with a vote to approve the project. At yesterday's city council meeting, they approved an agreement between the Airport Authority and the state docks to move forward. Officials with the Alabama Port Authority still need to close on the land. It's believed this project will provide some much needed public access to the West side of Mobile Bay.

“I think the park will add a very valuable asset to public access to Mobile Bay,” says Alabama State Docks spokesman Judith Adams. “We don't have a whole lot of points in Mobile County that provide the general public to Mobile Bay.” Construction may begin in the next couple of months and could finish in late 2008 or early 2009.
