A new dance studio is at the center of a sex scandal in the Bible Belt.
The mayor of Bartlett, Tennessee shut down Eccentric Studios calling it a sexually-oriented business that was in violation of zoning laws.
But the owner, Rachael Vint, who is a classically-trained ballet dancer, disagrees. Vint says the pole dancing classes she offers, called 'Strip To Fit', are simply exercise for fully-clothed women over 18-years-old.
"A dance is an expression that is often misunderstood," Vint said. "The Waltz was once the most taboo thing in town. And now so is Strip To Fit."
Mayor Keith McDonald issued a stop work order after his code enforcement officer showed him the company's flyers and website. The grand opening was supposed to be Monday.
"I think that he's uncomfortable with what we're up to," Vint said. "And he's unwilling to come out and see that what we're up to is just a good work out and feeling good about ourselves."
Vint says she hopes to fight the mayor's decision in court.
