Deadly Construction Accident

8:00 p.m.
- Victim identified as 37-year-old James Hall from Montgomery
- According to the Mobile County Sheriff's Office, Hall was crushed by a heavy piece of equipment around 4:45 p.m. Spokesperson Kate Johnson says the equipment rolled over on Hall as he tried to get off.

7:25 p.m.
- Alabama DOT spokesperson Tony Harris says ALDOT awarded the $15.7 million contract to Racon Inc. earlier this year.
- In April, the Tuscaloosa based company started building an interchange on Hwy. 43 at TK Boulevard, formerly known as Dow Badische Road, south of Calvert.
- According to News 5's {encode="salexander@wkrg.com" title="Steve Alexander"} who is on the scene, police tape is surrounding the accident site which is about 50 feet off Hwy. 43 directly across from the Thyssenkrupp entrance.
- Mt Vernon police, ALDOT workers and Mobile County deputies are on the scene.
- OSHA will be investigating the death.
- Hwy 43. has not been blocked off and traffic is moving well.

7:04 p.m.
One person is dead after a construction accident near the Thyssenkrupp steel mill in Calvert.

Tony Harris, a spokesperson for Alabama DOT, says the accident happened Friday afternoon on Highway 43. The road is being widened to accommodate the traffic to and from the $3.7 billion steel mill when it opens in 2010.

Harris says the victim is not an ALDOT employee. They worked for a contractor called Racon Incorporated.

Harris did not know exactly how the person died, only that the accident involved a heavy piece of equipment.
