MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - Mobile Mayor Sam Jones says the city plans
to spent up to $3 million for a new gangway in anticipation of
getting a larger cruise ship for the port city.
The Swedish company FMT confirmed it has had preliminary talks
about providing a new gangway at the Alabama Cruise Terminal in
Mobile.
The terminal is now the home port for the Holiday, the smallest
ship in the Carnival fleet. City officials have been pushing for a
larger ship, and the mayor says an announcement could come at any
time. City officials' hopes are based on Carnival ordering some
larger cruise ships and moving around some of its existing fleet.
Carnival spokesman Vance Gulliksen said Tuesday the company has
made no decisions about changes in Mobile.
