Local Cops Cleared In Rape Investigation

»  Comments | Post a Comment

The Baldwin County Sheriff's Office has cleared six Orange Beach police officers in an on-going rape investigation. In a statement released today by Major Anthony Lowery, D.N.A. evidence collected in a rape kit from the alleged victim excluded the officers as possible contributors to the recovered D.N.A. Foreign D.N.A. was recovered and analyzed from the kit, but the evidence shows the officers in question did not sexually assault the woman.

In May, a woman claims she was sexually assaulted by police officers after leaving a bar in Orange Beach. The woman told authorities she was taken behind a sand dune and raped by at least three officers. Since the allegations were made, Orange Beach Police Chief Billy Wilkins has stood by his men and denied the allegations made against his officers.

WKRG News 5 will update this developing story tonight during our broadcasts and online.
