A South Alabama woman is preparing for the fight of her life. The man who's convicted of killing her mother could be let out on parole this summer.
Everyone in and around Thomasville says Charity Rotton is the spitting image of her mother. "People that you know grew up with my mother say I don't know if you're bothered by it, but you look just like your mama."
It's a bittersweet memory because Charity's mom Dinah was shot to death ten years ago. Robert Hamilton was convicted of pulling the trigger and is serving prison time. Charity says he's up for parole this year. "Yeah, because of how the system is! Because you do have overcrowded systems, and you know they want the simple solution."
Charity plans to start a petition soon to make sure Hamilton never walks the streets of Clarke County again.
He's not only the man convicted of killing her mom, he's also Charity's father. "My mother had been beat and shot at for I know 18 years . Did you think it was a matter of time? Oh, yeah, everybody knew that was how she was going to die."
Charity couldn't stop the abuse then but she can do something now. "Her last words were Charity's gonna take care of ya'll, so that really bothers me."
She and her father have written letters for years but he's never admitted to killing her mother. Robert Hamilton is scheduled for a review in June and possible parole hearing after that.
