The Mobile County Commission is encouraging businesses and citizens to contribute to the Mobile County Sheriff’s Flotilla.
The Flotilla is a volunteer organization that conducts search and rescue missions in local waters. The Flotilla has spent the last eight days searching a wide area off Dauphin Island for four Bayou La Batre children. Two bodies have been discovered. Police say the children’s father has confessed to throwing the children off the Dauphin Island Bridge.
Last week, the County Commission approved $10,000 for the Flotilla to help off set their many expenses.
“We want to do what we can to strengthen the Flotilla,” said Mobile County Commission President Stephen Nodine. “To witness the work they are doing, under the circumstances, is truly amazing.”
“They are a great group of volunteers who need all the support they can get,” said Commissioner Mike Dean.
The Flotilla is currently trying to raise $35,000 for new sonar and operation equipment.
