Authorities in Maryland have placed a hospital on lockdown after a Jessup Correctional Institution prisoner escaped from security guards while being taken inside the Laurel Regional Hospital. According to reports, shots were fired but there are no reports of injuries. An emergency official said the prisoner overpowered the guard and managed to take a firearm. The official also says that the shots may have come from the prisoner trying to shoot off his shackles.
Authorities are still searching for the escaped inmate in the hospital and surrounding areas.
In November, a similar sitation occurred at the same hospital when a different prisoner took a state trooper's gun. He was captured several hours later.
