Chilly Citrus

MIAMI (AP) - Florida's commercial farmers are taking precautions to protect citrus and other crops from plunging temperatures.

Forecasters are calling for temperatures to drop below freezing in much of the state tonight.

Some areas could reach the lower to mid-20's.

Governor Charlie Crist has issued an order relaxing restrictions in getting harvested crops moved to processing centers.

Officials say they're most concerned about citrus industry, though Florida produces nearly 300 crops and much of the nation's domestically grown fruits and vegetables during the winter. The early harvest of citrus starts in November and December but beans, corn, cucumbers and eggplant are also being harvested and could be affected.
